Free agency is underway, and Don Sweeney and the Boston Bruins are busy. After the Jeannot and Matej Blumel news, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and New England Hockey Journal’s Mark Divver reported that Jordan Harris will become a Boston Bruin. According to DailyFaceoff’s Anthony DiMarco, the contract will be a one-year deal worth $825,000. Harris, a left-handed defenseman, was raised in Haverhill, MA, and played four seasons at Northeastern University.
Last season, Harris played in 33 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring one goal and providing four assists. He was a healthy scratch many times this year in Columbus, ultimately leading the Blue Jackets to leave him unqualified and making him an unrestricted free agent. He was the only return that Columbus received in a trade that sent Patrik Laine and a second-round pick to Montreal.
Harris was a third-round draft pick by the Canadiens in 2018. He played in Montreal for three seasons, totaling 131 games. He scored eight goals and had 32 points, with a plus/minus rating of -5. He has never appeared in an AHL game or an NHL postseason game.
Harris grew up in Haverhill, MA, and played hockey for Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH, the Boston Jr. Eagles, and the Islanders Hockey Club. He attended Northeastern University for all four years, playing in 130 games and scoring 73 points. He finished at Northeastern with a plus/minus rating of +27 and jumped to Montreal after his senior year concluded.
