A day after their final preseason game, the Boston Bruins have completed their roster ahead of the season opener on Wednesday. On Sunday afternoon, the Bruins announced that Jonathan Aspirot, Matej Blumel, Michael DiPietro, and Alex Steeves have been placed on waivers and would report to Providence if they clear. Matt Poitras will report to the Providence Bruins; he does not need waivers to get sent down.

After this week’s roster moves, the Boston Bruins have solidified their 2025-26 opening day lineup. Marat Khusnutdinov, Fraser Minten, Jeffrey Viel, and John Beecher have won the training camp battles and will stick around with the NHL club to start the season. So did Jordan Harris, who, going into training camp, was arguably the favorite for the seventh defenseman role. Steeves, Blumel, and Aspirot, who were brought in during free agency, have been waived and sent to Providence if they clear.

Michael DiPietro is a name to watch as the results of the waiver wire come out tomorrow around 2:00 PM. He signed a two-year, one-way deal with the Bruins in June, and with his two-year contract, teams willing to claim him will be locked into the same multi-year agreement, potentially driving away some teams willing to take a flier on the former AHL first-team All-Star. However, goaltenders have been a hot ticket throughout the waiver wire; two of the six waiver claims so far this season have been goalies. And with a report from ESPN’s Kevin Weekes at the beginning of the offseason that teams will be interested in DiPietro, the goalie could garner interest as he is exposed on the waiver wire.

After today’s roster moves, the Bruins’ 23-man roster for opening night shapes up like this:

Forwards (14): Viktor Arvidsson, John Beecher, Michael Eyssimont, Morgan Geekie, Tanner Jeannot, Mark Kastelic, Marat Khusnutdinov, Sean Kuraly, Elias Lindholm, Fraser Minten, Casey Mittelstadt, David Pastrnak, Jeffrey Viel, Pavel Zacha

Defensemen (7): Jordan Harris, Henri Jokiharju, Hampus Lindholm, Mason Lohrei, Charlie McAvoy, Andrew Peeke, Nikita Zadorov

Goaltenders (2): Joonas Korpisalo, Jeremy Swayman

The Boston Bruins finally have meaningful hockey on their schedule. After a long offseason, the Bruins open the season on Wednesday night in Washington, DC. The game will be at 7:30 PM on TNT and HBO Max. The black and gold will have their first game at the TD Garden the next day, when the Blackhawks are in town. Poitras and those who clear waivers will start the Providence Bruins season on Saturday, October 11, with a trip to Bridgeport, CT, to play the Islanders.
