The Boston Bruins have made their first addition of the summer. After the departures of Patrick Brown and Victor Soderstrom to European teams, the Bruins have brought in a player from Europe, signing Swiss forward Attilio Biasca to a two-year entry-level contract.
Biasca is a 23-year-old left-shot forward, standing at 6’1″, 194lbs. He spent this past season in the Swiss National League with HC Fribourg-Gotteron, where he helped them win the Swiss Championship. He had 15-12-27 in 45 regular-season games, adding three goals and an assist in the playoffs. The Bruins have never drafted a player from Switzerland, and if Biasca were to play in an NHL game, he’d be the first ever Swiss-born player to play for the Boston Bruins.
Biasca also represented the Swiss National Team this summer at Worlds, where he helped the Swiss to a Silver Medal. Biasca played on a line with NHL stars Nico Hischier and Timo Meier, putting up a goal and two assists in 10 games. It was Biasca’s first time representing the Swiss National Team at Senior level, but he has played in three World Junior Championships for Team Switzerland, including in 2023, where he was the team’s captain. This won’t be Biasca’s first time playing in North America, as he played parts of three season’s in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Halifax Mooseheads, where he was the team’s captain in 2022-2023.
Biasca is projected to start in the American Hockey League with Providence next season, but given his professional experience and age, it’s not unthinkable that he could get into some NHL games at some point, either next season or the year after. With Providence’s roster for next season still very much up in the air, Biasca could have a sizable role on the team.
