Despite Tuukka Rask’s decision last season to leave the bubble during the playoffs, he is entering the last year of his contract. In a recent article on NHL.com. Head Coach Bruce Cassidy told @AmalieBenjamin that it is “full steam ahead” with Rask in the net. The truth of why Tuukka left the bubble on August 15th was later revealed that there were medical problems with his daughter.
Moving On…
With that now in the past, the question becomes, will General Manager Don Sweeney sign Tuukka to another contract? The future seems to be bright for it! Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub has quoted Sweeney as saying…..
“As a matter of fact, our staff has communicated with Tuukka and, as I said before, he remains a big part of our roster planning going forward,” Sweeney said. ” I think by my knowledge, he was second in the Vezina balloting and we feel very, very comfortable with where our goaltending is at. And I think you’re going to need it. I don’t know what the schedule and what the season – I think there are a lot of things that are up in the air, but it could be a challenging environment from a season standpoint. Might make goaltending even more a big part of what you have to have going forward.”

Tuukka won the Vezina Trophy in the 2013-2014 season, and most recently, in the 2019 – 2020 season, he won the William M. Jennings trophy. Of course, he was apart of the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship win.
However…
However, even though things seem to be ok now and Bruins Nation will all be looking forward to seeing Tuukka in the net, but there are no guarantees for future seasons. Look at what happened with Torey Krug; there’s no telling what will happen.
After Tim Thomas left in 2013, they signed Rask to an eight-year, $56 million contract with a no-trade clause, which pretty much gives Rask the option to go wherever he wants. This means that Bruins Nation can only hope he stays or that Jaroslav Halak gets more playtime on the ice to improve himself.
But…
But! If we look at the stats between Halak and Rask, as far as goaltenders are concerned, we can breathe. Looking at save percentages alone, the two of them are pretty close. Here are what Rask did for last season.

Rask’s stats are slightly higher because he played more games, obviously, but Halak isn’t far behind. Although Bruins Nation likes to scream TUUUUKKK on a great save, there can always be something made up for Halak. In fact, there should be one for Halak! Maybe there should be a contest for one, just for fun!
I hope that all of Bruins Nation hopes that Tuukka Rask will renew his contract and stay a Bruin. This writer does. And we pray to the hockey gods that we bring home the cup this season! Also, to hear Jack Edwards say, “How’s your entertainment factor, now?”
