The Boston Bruins used the 100th overall selection on Colorado-born Czech defenseman Vashek Blanár, also known as Vashen Richards. Blanár stands at 6’4” and weighs 183 lbs. He played last season for IF Troja-Ljungby in Sweden.
The Bruins seemingly went off the board with this pick; he was not listed in the EliteProspects draft guide. Last season, Blanár played two games in the Swedish fourth division and 28 games as the captain for Hässelby Kälvesta HC J18; this season, he played four games for IF Troja-Ljungby J20 and 38 games for IF Troja-Ljungby J18, picking up six goals and 22 points with both teams.
The Bruins landed this draft pick in a trade deadline deal that sent Brandon Carlo to Toronto. This pick, a first-round pick next year, and forward Fraser Minten were the return from the Maple Leafs. The Bruins recently moved the #108 selection to Tampa Bay and will turn to their last two selections tonight at #133 and #165.
