Boston Bruins prospect Cooper Simpson has had a phenomenal season for the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL. The Shakopee, Minnesota, native has officially taken over the league scoring lead after yet another big week. Simpson is currently on pace for 82 points over 62 games, just a hair under the 1.36 points-per-game pace of fellow B’s prospect and current University of North Dakota forward Will Zellers from last season. Zellers won the USHL Player of the Year award, and if Simpson continues to score at this rate, there’s a decent chance he could win the award too. Now here’s how the rest of the Bruins Prospect Pool did this week.

Elliott Groenewold this week for Quinnipiac University (ECAC): Two games played, one goal, one assist, two penalty minutes, +4 rating.
Groenewold is an insane +27 on the year, leading the country in that statistic.

Morello is up to 5-6-11 in 23 games in his Freshman season with the Terriers. It’s been a bit of a rough year for BU, but Morello’s play has really picked up of late.

Providence and Maine
The Providence Bruins went 2-1-0 this week, losing to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday, before sweeping a weekend series against the Cleveland Monsters. Fabian Lysell had a goal and an assist this week, bringing his season stat line up to 12-19-31 in 32 games. Frederic Brunet also found the back of the net this week and recorded two assists. It feels like an NHL call-up could be close for the Gatineau, Quebec, native.
Meanwhile, the Maine Mariners had a three-game set against the Worcester Railers this weekend, winning two of the three games, all decided by one goal. Jackson Edward was sent to Maine and recorded two assists this weekend, his first points of the year.
