Providence Bruins goaltender Michael DiPietro has been honored as the Team MVP for the 2025-26 regular season, an award presented by Amica Mutual Insurance. DiPietro’s stellar performance in net has been instrumental to Providence’s success this year, as he posted an impressive 34-8-1 record over 45 appearances. With a sparkling 1.91 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage, DiPietro also recorded three shutouts, solidifying his status as one of the top goaltenders in the AHL.
Over the last three seasons as a member of the Boston Bruins’ minor-pro system, DiPietro has consistently been among the league’s elite netminders. Particularly in the last two seasons, he has amassed an outstanding 60-16-6 record, establishing himself as a cornerstone for Providence and a potential future asset for Boston.
The former Vancouver Canucks prospect is entering the final year of his contract, making his future with the organization an intriguing storyline, especially with veteran Joonas Korpisalo signed for two more seasons. As the reigning Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award winner as the AHL’s top goaltender for the 2024-25 season, DiPietro is in a prime position to repeat the honor this year thanks to his exceptional play.
DiPietro’s continued dominance in the crease not only anchors Providence’s playoff hopes but also raises questions about the Bruins’ long-term goaltending plans at both the AHL and NHL levels. Michael would need waivers if the Boston organization were to place him in the AHL. He successfully made it through the waiver process this past fall, but I guarantee that won’t happen again with the limited amount of available goaltenders, which could force the Bruins to make a difficult decision with Korpisalo this offseason.
