Another key contributor from the Maine Mariners is headed overseas, as 25-year-old forward Brooklyn Kalmikov has signed a deal to continue his career with HKM Zvolen of the Slovak Professional Ice Hockey League. Kalmikov becomes the second Mariners player this offseason to make the move overseas, joining forward Jacob Hudson, who recently signed a deal to play in Russia. The departures mark the loss of two of Maine’s top offensive contributors from the 2025-26 season.

During his time in Maine, Kalmikov established himself as an important piece of the Mariners’ lineup, providing scoring ability, consistency, and veteran leadership. His departure leaves another significant hole for Maine as the team continues navigating the offseason roster changes.

Kalmikov arrived in Maine after spending his rookie season with the Wheeling Nailers, where he quickly established himself as a key offensive contributor. In 66 games during his first professional season, he recorded 23 goals and added 29 assists, becoming one of Wheeling’s most reliable offensive weapons. His strong play also earned him a call-up to the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he appeared in three games.

Following his impressive rookie campaign, Kalmikov joined the Maine Mariners and continued to show why he was considered such a valuable piece of the lineup. In his first season in Maine, he appeared in 68 games, scoring 21 goals and adding 28 assists while helping the Mariners secure a playoff berth. Kalmikov continued to make an impact in the postseason, playing in all seven playoff games and recording one goal and one assist.

Kalmikov returned to the Mariners the following season and continued to establish himself as one of Maine’s most dangerous offensive weapons. In 66 games, he recorded 22 goals and added 34 assists, finishing as a major contributor for a Mariners team that was unable to return to the postseason. Despite missing the playoffs, Kalmikov remained committed to Maine and returned for a third season, where he continued his offensive success. During the 2025-26 campaign, he appeared in 64 games, scoring 21 goals and adding 41 assists. His strong season also earned him another opportunity at the AHL level, as he was called up to the Providence Bruins, where he appeared in five games.

Beyond his consistent production, Kalmikov became known for delivering in important moments. He recorded overtime game-winning goals against the Reading Royals in January and the Florida Everblades in February, proving once again that he could be relied upon when the Mariners needed a big play. Kalmikov helped lead Maine back to the playoffs in the 2025-26 season, where he continued to make an impact. In 13 postseason games, he recorded four goals and five assists, finishing his Mariners career as one of the team’s most consistent offensive contributors.

After three seasons in a Mariners uniform, Brooklyn Kalmikov leaves Maine as one of the most consistent and impactful offensive players of his era with the organization. From his first arrival in Portland to becoming a reliable scorer and a leader on the ice, Kalmikov was a player the Mariners could count on in both the regular season and the playoffs. His departure creates another significant hole in Maine’s lineup, but it also marks an exciting opportunity for him as he begins the next chapter of his career overseas with HKM Zvolen. Mariners fans will remember Kalmikov not only for his production but for the energy, competitiveness, and clutch performances he brought every night.
