The American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins have added to their blue line depth with today’s signing of right-shooting defenseman Dylan MacKinnon to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 hockey season. The 21-year-old native of New Brunswick, Canada, brings size, physicality, and promise to the organization as he looks to transition his junior success to the professional ranks.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 203 pounds, MacKinnon completed a robust Canadian junior career in the QMJHL, suiting up for three teams: the Halifax Mooseheads, Moncton Wildcats, and, most recently, the Charlottetown Islanders. During the 2025-26 campaign with the Islanders, MacKinnon registered 1 goal and 11 assists for 12 points over 45 games, showcasing his steady defensive play and ability to contribute offensively.

Originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft, MacKinnon has steadily developed his game, earning attention throughout the hockey community. In 2025, he participated in the Boston Bruins’ Prospects Challenge Tournament in Buffalo, New York, gaining valuable experience alongside other rising talents in the organization.

Following the conclusion of his QMJHL career this spring, MacKinnon signed an amateur tryout agreement with the ECHL’s Maine Mariners. He appeared in three professional games with the Mariners, posting zero points, but he offered a glimpse of his potential at the next level. While his newly signed two-way deal with Providence opens up the possibility for AHL action, it is expected that MacKinnon will see significant playing time with Boston’s “AA” minor-pro affiliate, the Maine Mariners, in the upcoming 2026-27 season as he continues to refine his game and adapt to the professional pace.
