The Maine Mariners have had a busy 2026 offseason so far. The Mariners acquired the rights to Jack Works from the Wheeling Nailers to complete their January 2026 trade, then lost forwards Brooklyn Kalmikov and Jacob Hudson after they signed new contracts to play overseas. Now, another forward is gone from the Mariners’ roster.
Today, forward Xander Lamppa has signed a contract with the EIHL’s Fife Flyers in Scotland, ending his three-year tenure with the Mariners. At 26, Lamppa’s 2025-26 season with the Mariners was promising, showcasing his potential.
Lamppa’s 16 goals this past season were tied for the sixth-most on the Mariners’ roster. Lamppa finished this season recording 29 points in 68 games played. Lamppa’s best season in Maine was when he recorded 31 points in 65 games during the 2024-25 season. Overall, Lamppa recorded 68 points in 149 games during his Mariners tenure. Despite solid regular-season play and providing depth for the Mariners, Lamppa struggled when it mattered most during the ECHL’s Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Lamppa recorded two assists in seven games for the Mariners during the 2024 playoffs, then recorded three assists in 14 games during the 2026 playoffs. Lamppa’s last home game played in Maine was his best of the 2026 playoffs, as he recorded two assists in the Mariners’ 5-3 win in Game 5 against the Nailers in the second round.
Losing three pivotal forwards in an offseason is tough for a team, but it has now happened to the Mariners. Despite losing Lamppa, the Mariners have a solid core up front that will have to take a big step next season. The Mariners’ first game of the 2026-27 season begins on Oct. 17 against the Worcester Railers at DCU Arena in Worcester, Massachusetts.
