Today, the Boston Bruins have been busy at the start of the National Hockey League offseason. Defenseman Connor Clifton signed a two-year contract to return to Boston, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo was traded away to the New York Rangers, forwards Viktor Arvidsson and Riley Tufte were both lost, forward Brendan Gaunce and goaltender Jiri Patera each signed with the Bruins, and defenseman Will Borgen was acquired in a trade from the Rangers for two draft picks.

General manager Don Sweeney has been very active since free agency began. Now, Sweeney has added more depth to the Bruins roster. Recently, the Bruins signed forward Brian Halonen and defenseman Maxence Guenette each to two-way contracts.

At 27 years old, Halonen has been with the New Jersey Devils organization since the 2021-22 season after being undrafted. Halonen spent the majority of his Devils tenure in the American Hockey League with the Utica Comets. Halonen has recorded 136 points in 217 games in his AHL career. Halonen has only recorded two points in 19 career NHL games.

In the 2025-26 season, Halonen recorded 34 points in 51 games for the Comets. Halonen’s 20 goals for the Comets were tied for the second-most on the roster. Meanwhile, Halonen recorded two points in 15 NHL games for the Devils. Halonen played nine games in October and November to begin the season for the Devils, then was called back up to the NHL in April, where he recorded just one assist in six games. While Halonen’s first career NHL goal was a game-winning goal on Nov. 1 against the Los Angeles Kings, arguably the top moment of Halonen’s season was when he delivered a big punch in a fight against former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Simon Benoit in October 2025. Halonen’s contract is for two years at an AAV of $875,000.

For Guenette, he was the former 187th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft of the Ottawa Senators. Guenette has recorded no points in eight career NHL games at 25 years old, and he hasn’t played in an NHL game since March 16, 2024. Guenette’s Senators tenure ended in November 2025 after being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Although he never played an NHL game for the Flyers, Guenette remained steady with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL this past season. Guenette recorded 24 points in 46 games for Lehigh Valley. Despite not playing the entire season, Guenette’s 24 points were the second-most among Lehigh Valley defensemen, and his 22 assists were the fifth-most on the roster. Guenette also had seven two-assist games for Lehigh Valley. In his AHL career, Guenette has recorded 140 points in 282 games. Guenette’s contract is for one year at an AAV of $850,000.

With all the moves the Bruins have made today, the team has under $5.4 million in cap space according to PuckPedia. More moves and rumors involving the Bruins could be expected to shape up the roster.
