Sometimes a player only needs one season to leave a lasting impression. For goaltender Luke Cavallin, one unforgettable year in Maine was enough to cement his place in Maine Mariners history while opening the door to the next step in his professional career with the Boston Bruins organization.

Luke Cavallin arrived in Maine following one of the most impressive seasons of any goaltender in professional hockey. During the 2024-25 campaign, he helped lead the Trois-Rivières Lions to a Kelly Cup championship and was named the Kelly Cup Playoffs Most Valuable Player.

On July 1, 2025, Cavallin signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins, joining the organization’s ECHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners. The signing immediately generated excitement throughout the Mariners fan base, as the team was adding a championship-winning goaltender coming off a historic postseason run.

After coming off a championship season, Cavallin had several options for the next step in his career. When asked what drew him to the Bruins organization and ultimately the Maine Mariners, his answer centered on finding a place where he felt valued and could continue to grow.

“What was important to me was going to an organization where I felt valued, with the hope of continuing to move forward in my career,” Cavallin said. “Boston is also a great organization from top to bottom with a history of success, so I felt a great sense of pride in joining it.”

That appreciation quickly extended to his time in Maine. Beyond the success on the ice, Cavallin spoke highly of the Mariners organization, the city of Portland, and the vision for the club’s future.

“I love the organization. I truly believe it is in great hands with Dexter Paine as the owner,” Cavallin said. “I think the fans have a lot to be excited about moving forward, and I’m grateful that I was able to experience being a part of it. The organization is definitely on the rise, and I know the main focus, besides winning a Kelly Cup, is building a brand that everyone wants to be a part of. That’s really all you can hope for.”

Luke also enjoyed playing with such a tight-knit group of teammates here in Maine. “All of my teammates have a big impact on me through one way or another,” said Cavallin. “Throughout a full season of spending most hours of every day together, they become very close to you, and I’ve built relationships that will last a lifetime. Also, as a goalie, we rely on each other quite a bit. I was very fortunate to play with the Mariners this year; this past team was a very close group, and that was a big factor in our success.”

“I thought Arv and I had a great dynamic throughout the year,” says Luke about his season teaming up with Brad Arvanitis. “He had an awesome season and was a really good teammate. Our focus was always just to help the team win no matter who was in net.”

Although his time in Maine lasted just one season, it was more than enough to create memories that will stay with Cavallin long after his playing days are over. “Obviously there were many on-ice moments that were great to experience,” says Cavallin. “The tight playoff games and the overtime winners. However, a lot of my favorite moments I experienced off the ice with my teammates. Maine is an amazing state that has a lot to offer. I really enjoyed walking the beach or going to many of the restaurants downtown with the teammates, along with having them over for dinner and movies in Scarborough Downs.”

It didn’t take long for Cavallin to understand why the Maine Mariners fan base is regarded as one of the best in the ECHL. “I really appreciated the support we received from the fans this year,” says Cavallin. “I know the atmosphere in the playoffs was amazing and it really drove our on-ice performances. I love how invested the fan base is in Maine, not only in hockey but also in all the other sports teams that Portland hosts. We got to go to some Sea Dogs (AA Baseball) and Hearts of Pine (USL soccer) games after our season ended, and it was really cool seeing how much Portland loves minor league sports.

While reflecting on his time in Maine brought plenty of fond memories, Cavallin admitted he’s just as excited about what comes next with the Bruins organization after signing another one-year, two-way contract on July 1st. “I’m very grateful for another opportunity to prove myself as a goaltender in the organization,” says Cavallin. ” As well as the opportunity to continue developing as a professional athlete, honing my craft, and working towards achieving my goals in my hockey career. I’m most excited to get back to playing games, in amazing cities, in front of diehard fans, and working with my teammates and staff towards winning a championship.”

Although Luke Cavallin’s time in Maine lasted just one season, his impact on the organization will be remembered for years to come. As he continues chasing his NHL dream within the Boston Bruins organization, Mariners fans will undoubtedly be cheering him on every step of the way.
